Enable women for political action: Become a Political Trainer

Samaanta Ambassadors Program

The Samaanta Ambassadors program is a 6-week online learning experience for women who want to become professional trainers in the field of politics and want to nurture future women political leaders. Launched by NETRI Foundation, the program is being conducted in partnership with HAIYYA as content & outreach partners and Network Capital as Host-Platform partners.

Learn from experts and alums of Harvard Kennedy School, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Graduate Institute, Geneva and political practitioners.

Objectives of the program

The goal of the program is to build a community of women political trainers who will be equipped to bring organization and leadership skills to future women leaders. The program aims to build the capacity of a group of trainers from India who will be able to transfer knowledge and skills gained to women candidates as well as the team supporting these candidates.

Training Schedule and fee:

A program similar to this one would cost approximately over Rs.20,000. We are charging a token amount of Rs.5000 to selected applicants to ensure accountability and sustainability of the program.

Who is this program for?

  • Women and girls between 18-55 years of age (flexible on both ends of age)

  • Women/girls with a strong motivation and objective to organize women for political action

  • Community workers/organizers/leaders

  • Trainers in development sector

  • No educational qualification is preferred.

  • Literacy and 2 years of volunteering is preferred.

Scope after the program

  • Identify and organize women who are interested in political change at local level.

  • Opportunity to lead the NETRI chapter in your district.

  • Become a resource person with NETRI

  • Training and Organizing is a lifelong skill set and can be applied in multiple contexts

FLAGSHIP PROGRAM

PATHWAYS TO POLITICS | ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2021

PROGRAM DETAILS:

The online program is designed for women who are active in politics or who aspire to be engaged in politics. The program will leverage technology to build specific leadership skills among women politicians to become more effective advocates, champions and leaders in their field.

Learn from some top professionals including political analysts, communication specialists, thematic specialists and political leaders. Immerse yourself into a journey that will help you to fine tune and sharpen your leadership skills and acumen, through self-exploration, experiential learning and inspirational words.

Duration: 4 weeks, Starting date:  30th January 2021

Participants intake:  40 women

Partner Organizations: Global Shapers, Kolkatta hub

The requirement from participants:

  1. Basic internet connection (smartphone/data pack)
  2. Availability and commitment for 4 weeks (3 hours/week)
  3. Declaration of party membership if any/association with a political party

Learning Outcomes of the Program: The program has course work which is embedded in experiential learning.

  1. Practical skillset pertaining to using tech and data in elections
  2. The task-oriented course will prepare you for the upcoming elections
  3. Learning to campaign effectively virtually
  4. Articulate communication
  5. Understanding gender and politics
  6. Becoming a resource person for political parties
  7. Emerging as a woman leader and a champion over the years.

PATHWAYS TO POLITICS | BIHAR ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS 2020

PROGRAM DETAILS:

The online program is designed for women who are active in politics or who aspire to be engaged in politics. The program will leverage technology to build specific leadership skills among women politicians to become more effective advocates, champions and leaders in their field.

Experts engaged: UN Women, World Bank, Political Shakti, Jarvis.

Mentor Politician: Anu Tandon, former MP, Unnao, U.P.

Duration: 4 weeks, Starting date: 5th September 2020

Participants: 24 women

Program Outcomes: Our participants from the program-

Campaigned with different candidates and political parties during the Bihar election- managed social media, drove political communication for them, executed door-to-door campaigning.

One of the participants is now preparing to contest in Bihar’s upcoming panchayat elections for the position of Mukhiya, along with 14 other ward level contests under one banner formed by her.


BOOTCAMPS FOR Panchayats: POLITICAL TRAINING PROGRAM

CONSTITUENCY: Amethi, Uttar Pradesh

PROGRAM: NETRI Workshop in partnership with Self-Help Group Network under the aegis of Rajeev Gandhi Mahila Vikas Parishad, UP.

DETAILS: Political training workshop orientation was organised at the Panchayat (village) level. 60 women from 2 villages participated.

CONTENT:

  • Analysing the extent of women’s political participation
  • Conducting a survey for research
  • Simulating leadership models
  • Working on the barriers and issue identification
  • Understanding local elections

CONSTITUENCY: Harda, Madhya Pradesh

PROGRAM: NETRI Workshop in partnership with local NGO Synergy Sansthan at Yuvalaya Kendra.

DETAILS: Women’s Political training workshop orientation was organised at the Panchayat (village) level. 100+ women participation at a single location and 5 villages were covered.

  • Conducting a survey for research
  • Simulating leadership models
  • Working on the barriers and issue identification
  • Understanding local elections

CONSTITUENCY: Raibareilly , Uttar Pradesh

PROGRAM: NETRI Workshop in partnership with Self-Help Group- Indira Mahila Gram Sangathan, under the aegis of RGMVP, UP.

DETAILS: Women’s Political training workshop orientation was organised at the Panchayat (village) level. 60 women participation in two different meetings, 2 villages covered.

  • Conducting a survey for research
  • Simulating leadership models
  • Working on the barriers and issue identification
  • Mechanics of local level elections
Rai-bareilly-1

CONSTITUENCY: Bareilly , Uttar Pradesh

PROGRAM: NETRI Workshop in partnership with Netratavashala organised at RohilKhand University.

DETAILS: Women’s Political training workshop orientation was organised with the university students which comprised of 50 young girls and boys.  They were encouraged to contest in local level elections.

CONTENT:

  • Participatory tools for leadership
  • Talk on En-gendering politics by NETRI Foundation
  • Election Simulation
  • Working on the barriers and issue identification
  • Mechanics of local level elections
RESULTS:
  • In the simulation of election, the group leaders were females chosen by respective groups.
  • Both the parties/groups included women-centric issues in their campaign pitch. Specially, menstrual hygiene and ending period poverty made a part of the top-election promises.
  • The elected mayor was a young girl.
